          2020 Global Scholars Cohort Capstone Presentations


          The Global Scholars Capstone Projects at Poly are a way for students to share their most transformative experiences in global studies with the Poly community. Through their study and research, students educate members of the Poly community on significant and relevant issues around the globe, model global citizenship and community engagement, foster a mindset of creating solutions for global challenges, and reflect on the process of this project through their Global Scholars blog.

          The Capstone projects for Spring 2020 range from teaching classes to younger students, writing and presenting a grant proposal on behalf of a nonprofit to address a global issue, organizing an outreach effort to heighten global awareness, exhibiting a visual art collection or performing art, to moderating a colloquium or panel discussion on global issue/topic. The various ways that students choose to share their learning and reflections showcase the strength of this program at Poly.

          The presentations host parents, alums, students, faculty, staff, former global scholars, current global scholars and rising global scholars. They even had students from iThuba in Langa Township in South Africa with them during a virtual presentation.

          A panel discussion between three faith leaders about their religious connections to the lands of Israel and Palestine. 
          A Zoom Webinar with an interview with Dr. Clement Cid and Q+A afterwards.
          A Zoom presentation with a Prezi and film shown.
          Description of how I went about writing grant proposal and my takeaways - touching on ethics of charity, position of grant proposer, etc.
          This presentation focuses on how E-Waste recycling practices in the United States and Europe impact developing countries.
          Teaching a class to the Poly 7th grade World Geography classes.
          Our presentation will aim to introducing iThuba to future generations at Poly/Explaining our grant 


          Our presentation will focus on comparing differences and similarities between certain parts of Africa, and Los Angeles through a series of four case studies.

          Interactive compilation of research on the history of textiles, cultural dressing,  clothing in feminism, and eastern/western feminism.

          A Zoom presentation with a Prezi (pictures from trip)
          Water: Our Lifeline
          Lesson on the water crisis and organizations that address this in sub saharan Africa and LA.
          Partnering with Miry’s List to welcome our neighbors

          We will describe ways in which the Poly community can help out Miry’s List and refugees within our community. Moreover, our presentation will include discussing how refugee camps are particularly vulnerable during the pandemic.
